In The Picture : Rosaline Hampton
Last Wednesday, I had a chance to visit Rosaline Hampton at her posh salon, The Rosaline Hampton Salon in downtown Bellevue. There are so many new things happened in her salon since we first met at her Grand Opening and Rosaline shared it all with me including a special message to Make Up Artists.
Rosaline brings a breath of fresh air to us here by offering Image, Hair, Make and Wardrobe consultations because of her desire to help women in Seattle finding their best image possible. And she has been successful. Currently, Rosaline has expanded and strengthened her brand image with a solid team of 3 in her salon. Besides Rosaline herself, Jean a two year celebrity stylist is the person to go to for hair extensions and Brenda is an ethnic hair specialist.
We do need a specialist for ethnic hair. I am half Asian and I inherited my Asian dad straight hair. I am having a hard time to find a stylist here who understands the type of Asian hair. For example, due to the straightness of my hair my bangs needs to be cut with plenty of volume, however most hair stylists will cut my bangs into a piecey look that turns out to be spiky. And that is not a good look for a girl.
Rosaline carries wonderful products in her salon, Davines, a premier Italian hair care line and Senna cosmetics an LA-based line exclusive to stylists.
The day I visited her, she just received a delivery of Davines Volu, a volume enhancing and softener hair products that smells so heavenly. I brought home the shampoo and Rosaline gave me a few hair conditioner samples to try at home. These products has helped my hair tremendously since I have been swimming every day. It makes my hair extremely soft and manageable.
Rosaline has the latest Fall/Winter Senna products that includes the new contoured color, bordeaux color, red lipstick and the new eggplant eye liner.
I asked Rosaline what she thinks about Summer and Fall Trend and according to her, the trend this Summer for hair is Ombre hair, a beachy surfer girl look. For make up, pop colors like orange, yellow, hot pink, purple, teal and cobalt. According to Rosaline, do have fun reversing colors, for example put on orange eye shadow and baby blue lipstick instead.
For Fall, the color trend is plum, wine, bordeaux, neutral, black, charcoal, and grey. For wardrobe, lace, feather and fur are the most wanted. For hair, honey color with much smoother, polished, straight and smooth look, fringe bob with middle parts.
Rosaline currently offers one and only celebrity make over in collaboration with Keith Munyan, a celebrity photographer at his studio in Los Angeles. It is a one day photo shoot in Los Angeles that includes hair, make up and styling by Rosaline and a high fashion and glamour photograph by Keith Munyan.
Other projects that she had completed are teamed up with designer Madina Vadache for Madina’s boutique opening fashion show in Bellevue, transition make up and wardrobe for Q13 Lily Jang.
Rosaline is an inspiring success story. With 14 years of experience and awarded “Top Makeup Expert/Transformer” by Allure magazine, “Top Hairstylist” and “Top Colorist” by Seattle magazine twice and her involvement in “America’s Next Top Model.”
What is the key to her success ?
Keep pushing yourself. Keep your education and training up to date, learn from celebrity stylists. Rosaline continues to go to trainings in New York, Los Angeles, finding inspiration by travel, watch the European runaway, and MTV. If you want to make money find a more lucrative end of make up, sign with an agency who will book work for you.
I can’t help but notice, Rosaline is taking what she is doing very seriously. She keeps creating, inventing and moving forward each time. I can’t wait to hear what she’s up to next !
